How AI शिक्षकः teaches
It never states a śloka's split, a form, or a translation. It gives you the smallest possible nudge, and if you are still stuck, a slightly larger one — until you take the last step yourself.
The hint ladder
Every practice turn climbs one rung at a time. The tutor stops the moment you get it.
- Opening question. You are shown a word or śloka and asked for your attempt — the case and number, the split, the derived form.
- An analogous word. Wrong on the first try? You get a parallel word in the same paradigm — “नर makes नरैः; what does the same ending do to राम?” — so you transfer the pattern yourself.
- The operative rule. Still stuck? Now the specific Pāṇinian rule that applies, and nothing else. You apply it.
- Last resort — the answer, with its derivation. Only when every rung has failed. And it never arrives bare: the sūtra-by-sūtra derivation comes with it, so the reveal is itself a lesson.
Why it withholds the answer
Ask any chat tool for a word-split and it obliges instantly. You write it down, and the derivation — the part that is actually Sanskrit — never happened in your head. AI शिक्षकः is built on the opposite instinct: the goal is not a faster answer, it is a learner who can derive the next one alone.
How the facts are verified शुद्धिः
The design is neuro-symbolic. A deterministic Pāṇinian engine — vidyut-prakriya, an implementation of Pāṇini's Aṣṭādhyāyī — runs the derivation and returns the correct form and the exact sūtra that produces it. The language model never decides grammar. It only rephrases the hint the engine has already justified, in plain language pitched to your level.
A hint can cite एचोऽयवायावः (6.1.78) because the engine walked that step — not because a model recalled a pattern that is right most of the time. If you ever catch a wrong hint, tell us — those are the reports we act on fastest.
What you can practise
- sandhi & pada-ccheda — where words join and what changes
- vibhakti & vachana — case and number
- śabda-rūpa — noun and pronoun declension
- dhātu-rūpa — verb conjugation across the lakāras
- kṛdanta, taddhitānta, sanādyanta — verb-, noun-, and derived-root formations
- samāsa & ekaśeṣa — compound analysis (आगामि)
- kośa — dictionary lookup with grammatical identity
A turn, start to finish
Concept: vibhakti. Word: गुरु, asked in the dative singular. You answer गुरौ — the locative, not the dative. The tutor offers भानु → भानवे and asks what the same change does to गुरु. Closer, but not there. It names the rule — एचोऽयवायावः — and you produce गुरवे. It confirms, and cites the sūtra. The answer was never in the model's prompt until you reached it.
